HEPA Filtration Technology
Cleaner Floors. Clearer Air. Smarter Technology.
Cleaning isn’t just about what you can see, it’s about what you can’t. Dust, allergens, and fine particles can linger in the air and can impact health, safety, and overall productivity. That’s why modern commercial vacuums and industrial sweepers are equipped with HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filtration, engineered to capture even the tiniest particles.
What is a HEPA Filter
HEPA stands for “high efficiency particulate air.” HEPA filters are pleated mechanical air filters that have the ability to remove dust, pollen, bacteria, and other airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. HEPA filters are a trusted technology across industries, used in:
- Industrial sweepers and vacuums – helping to capture fine dust and debris.
- Construction and mining sites – controlling silica dust and helping protect workers.
- Commercial buildings – improving indoor air quality in offices, healthcare, retail, and hospitality.
Recognised as a preferred solution for air purification, HEPA technology has been trusted for decades by those prioritising indoor air quality. The cleaning industry has harnessed this efficiency for years, integrating HEPA filters into floor care equipment and HVAC systems across schools, hospitals, industrial sites, and commercial facilities to help create a clean, safe space for everyone.
Benefits

Reduce exposure to harmful dust and allergens for a healthier workforce.
Help Maintain WHS Compliance
Help meet workplace safety standards with reliable filtration.
Enhance Productivity
Less downtime due to dust related maintenance on floors and equipment.
Industrial HEPA
While traditional sweepers remove visible dirt, Tennant equipment with HEPA filtration technology goes one step further. HEPA filtration is particularly valuable in construction and mining environments, where silica dust presents significant health, safety, and compliance risks. By removing fine particulate matter at the source, HEPA-equipped Tennant sweepers and vacuums help protect employees from harmful pollutants that would otherwise linger in the air.
Floor Sweepers with HEPA Filtration
Tennant industrial floor sweepers equipped with HEPA filtration use advanced High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) technology to capture these tiny particles at the source, providing protection for both workers and facilities.
This filtration occurs through a multi-stage system where air passes through progressively finer filters, culminating in a fifth-stage HEPA filter providing a filtration efficiency of up to 99.97 % at 0.3 microns. To further enhance operator safety, Tennant sweepers can be equipped with a HEPA-pressurised cab. This sealed cab maintains positive air pressure, preventing dust from entering the operator space, while a digital gauge and alarm monitor the pressure continuously to ensure protection.
When paired with dust suppression skirts, the HEPA system helps to ensure that airborne contaminants are minimised, improving indoor air quality and maintaining compliance with strict occupational health and safety standards.
Managing Silica Dust
Silica dust is one of the most difficult hazards to control in industrial environments. It’s a natural material found in stone, rocks, sand, bricks, and clay. When these materials are manufactured, silica is released as fine dust into the air. Due to its extremely fine particles, controlling exposure requires a combination of robust engineering controls and consistent housekeeping practices.
Work health and Safety (WHS) guidelines require businesses to develop comprehensive exposure control plans that address the unique needs of each facility. HEPA filtration provides a simple, reliable and cost-effective way to strengthen dust management strategies, reduce health risks, and support compliance.
Tennant’s industrial cleaning equipment, equipped with HEPA filtration technology, plays an important role in supporting silica exposure control plans. Capturing dust before it spreads.
Commercial Vacuums
Indoor air quality is just as important as clean floors. Without an effective filtration system, vacuums can loosen dust, dirt, and allergens and recirculate them back into the air. This is why the filtration system in a vacuum cleaner is so important. Without proper filtration, vacuums can actually release fine particles back into the air, spreading allergens and dust instead of removing them. That’s why a high-quality filtration system are important for maintaining a healthier environment.
Tennant’s V-CAN Vacuum series effectively removes 99.95% of dust particles as small as 0.3 microns with a 3-stage filtration system featuring HEPA 13 filter material (DIN EN 1822:2019). The polyester filter is further treated with AgTes silver-ion antibacterial technology, helping to prevent the growth of microorganisms and reduce biological contamination.
With advanced HEPA filtration and durable design, Tennant commercial vacuums deliver powerful cleaning performance while improving indoor air quality.
